Celebrating National POLST & South Carolina POST
The South Carolina Coalition for the Care of the Seriously Ill (SCCSI) will be joined on Wednesday, May 19, at 1:30 pm EST by Amy Vandenbroucke, JD, Executive Director of National POLST and Assistant Professor at Oregon Health and Science University.
POLST has different names in different states. At the national level, it is called Portable Medical Orders, or POLST for short. In South Carolina it is known as Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment, or POST.
POST is a standardized medical order designed for use as a part of advance care planning. POST is not an advance directive. It allows patients with a serious illness to choose which medical treatment(s) they want to receive and identify those they do not. POST also provides direction to health care providers for patients with a serious illness and is a portable document that transfers with the patient.
SCCSI plays a vital role bringing together key organizations, clinicians, and healthcare entities to collaboratively redesign care, improve quality of life, and protect the ethical rights of the seriously, chronically, or terminally ill in South Carolina.
SCCSI also played a vital role in making POST a reality in the Palmetto State. There were many individuals and organizations that played a critical role in helping pass POST legislation in 2019, including SCCSI.
The event will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 19 at 1:30 pm EST as part of the SCCSI quarterly meeting.
This is a free event, but attendees are asked to register.
